This Year Will Be Different, Part 5

Updated: Jan 2

Advent- This Year Will Be Different, Part 4

Recap

It's easy to fall into the trapping mindset that we have the rest of our lives to focus on eternal matters. We are aware that tragedy can strike at any moment, but we don't believe that it will happen to us, not really. We also believe that Jesus is coming back if we are truly followers of His, but most really don't think it's going to be in their lifetime. Part of the enemy's great deception is to blind us to the reality of our limitations with time and what the future holds. He would love for us to stay busy and numb to the truth that Jesus is coming back again.

It's been said that one can be so heavenly minded that they are of no earthly good. I would submit it's impossible to be of any earthly good without a mind constantly focused on heaven and the reality that Jesus is coming back soon to take us there.

Can we pause for just a few minutes and truly try to imagine the moment that Jesus steps back into our atmosphere to call us home? What regrets would we have? What would we be hoping for? Are we ready to go now? What would our true emotions be?

It's so challenging to live with an eternal mindset 24/7, the pull of the world is strong, and we are easily distracted creatures. We can even get so busy doing spiritual things that we can lose sight of the Object and purpose of that work. How different would 2020 look if each one of us lived every day with a hope and belief that today was the day Jesus was returning?

Scripture

Acts 1:6-11

Let's keep the conversation going. Use the following questions to discuss with your family, friends, or Connection Group.

1. What are your biggest distractions in life?

2. How can you be intentional in making 2020 focused on eternity?

3. What might you need to surrender or confess to change your priorities as it relates to the use of your time?

4. Are you living in such a way that if Jesus shows up in the next 5 minutes you will be ready to see Him? If not, what do you need to change? If so, take a few minutes and worship Him because you know He is coming soon.
