Advent- This Year Will Be Different, Part 2

Recap

How are you navigating this season? That question could refer to the Advent season, and then it could refer to your current circumstance or position in life. Regardless, the question still applies, how are you navigating this season of life?

For many, this year is different wether by choice, or due to some event in your life that was out of your control. Seasons of life are just that; they are seasons and seasons do change at some point. Seasons can become for us a time to withdraw, isolate, and insulate ourselves, or the season that you are currently experiencing can become an opportunity to develop.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Often, we find ourselves unable to control events in our lives, and those events don't stop just because it is Advent. In fact, the dark side of Christmas is that it has a way of intensifying those seasons of our lives. Our expectations are heightened during this time of year. The reality of life is unable to stand under the weight of our heightened expectations. The result is disappointment and lack of fulfillment during a season in which we should find great fulfillment.

So, how do we successfully navigate this season and somehow come out the other side a stronger individual for Christ? Now you’re probably preparing yourself for “the three steps to holiday bliss”, and that is not what you’re going to receive. I will only give you one leap. Not a step but a leap for this journey, and here it is.

Slow down and take some time!

Slow down and take a moment to notice God at work all around you. Don’t miss the common graces and the uncommon miracles that surround our lives daily. Don’t move through this season so quickly. Don't fail to understand what God has done for you. See how He is using this season for your good and growth.

An important thing for all of us to remember is: if you ever fall into quicksand, take your time. Quicksand, unlike water, will not move out of your way to let you pass. Quicksand resists movement, the more you thrash, the deeper you sink. Take your time, slow down, and you will get safely to the shore. The busier you become, the deeper you sink, so slow down and take in the God moments of this season, celebrate His presence in your life during all seasons.

This year can be different.

Scripture

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Colossians 1:27

Let's keep the conversation going. Use the following questions to discuss with your family, friends, or Connection Group.

1. What are three ways that you can slow down this season?

2. How are you practicing honestly regarding who you are and where you are during this season?

3. How are you being intentional this season?

4. How are you observing thankfulness?

5. How are you enjoying the greater reality of who Christ is in your life?
